Η Κρακοβία έχει συνδεθεί στο μυαλό των περισσότερων με το σκοτεινό πρόσφατο παρελθόν και τις φρικαλεότητες των Ναζί. Ίσως αυτός είναι ένας λόγος που πολλοί ταξιδιώτες δεν την προσθέτουν στην λίστα τους!! 

Krakow is mostly known for its dark recent past and the atrocities of the Nazis. Maybe this is the reason that a lot of travellers don’t add it in their bucket list!

Και όμως!! Είναι μια από τις πιο κουκλίστικες πόλεις στην Ευρώπη!! Και παράλληλα γεμάτη ζωντάνια (ειδικά τις βραδινές ώρες)!! Είναι από τις πόλεις που τις τριγυρνάς με τις ώρες και δεν τις χορταίνεις. Ή τουλάχιστον έτσι ένιωσα εγώ που δεν την ευχαριστήθηκα όσο θα ήθελα (καθώς ανάρρωνα από σπασμένο πόδι και την περπάτησα μέχρι να φτάσω στα όρια του πόνου) και υποσχέθηκα να ξαναπάω.

On the contrary, Krakow is one of the most picturesque and charming cities I’ve ever visited in Europe. And so vibrant I must say….especially during the night! It’s one of the cities where you wander around for hours and you can’t have enough of it!! Or at least that’s what I have experienced being there and recovering from a broken leg……I didn’t enjoyed it as much as I wanted to (I had to make a lot of stops while walking because I was in pain), so I promised to come back someday

Σου γράφω λοιπόν εδώ μερικά πραγματάκια που μπορείς να κάνεις στην πόλη μέσα σε ένα διήμερο/τριήμερο ύστερα από δύο φορές που έχω πάει (επισκέφτηκα την πόλη δύο φορές μέσα σε δύο χρόνια: Νοέμβριο του 2017 και Μάιο του 2019)!!

Here you can find which are the best things you can do in two or three days in Krakow after having visited it twice (I visited the city two times in two years: in November 2017 and in May 2019)!!  

 

1. Περιπλανήσου στην κεντρική πλατεία Rynek Główny στην Παλιά Πόλη/Wander around the central square Rynek Główny at the Old Town

Πρόκειται για μία από τις μεγαλύτερες πλατείες στην Ευρώπη!! Εδώ θα θαυμάσεις το top αξιοθέατο της πόλης….τον Καθεδρικό St Mary’s, ακροβάτες και μουσικούς του δρόμου και μια μεσαιωνική αγορά υφασμάτων που πλέον έχει μετατραπεί σε τουριστικά μαγαζάκια (Cloth Hall-Sukiennice στα πολωνικά). Δεν θα σου πρότεινα να κάτσεις για φαγητό στην πλατεία (γιατί ειναι λίγο τσιμπημένες οι τιμές μια ματιά που έριξα), αλλά μπορείς να κάτσεις για ένα mulled wine (το γνωστό ζεστό κρασί με κανέλλα και μυρωδικά), εμείς κάτσαμε στο Loza Restaurant & Drink Bar.
Και μέρα και νύχτα η πλατεία είναι εντυπωσιακή…..άσε που βλέπεις και τις άμαξες με τα άλογα και αποκτά παραπάνω ρομαντική ατμόσφαιρα….💗

It’s one of the largest squares in Europe!! You can admire here the top landmark of the city….St Mary’s Basilica, street artists and an once major center for international trade that has been converted into touristic shops (Cloth Hall-Sukiennice in Polish). I don’t suggest you eating around the square (’cause it’s a bit expensive), but you can sit for some mulled wine, we chose Loza Restaurant & Drink Bar.
The square is gorgeous both by day and night! And you can add the horse carriages to its romantic atmosphere….boom…💗

 

2. Εξερεύνησε τα στενάκια στην Παλιά Πόλη/Explore the cute alleys of the Old Town

Ξεκίνα από το Barbican (τα παλιά τείχη) και την πύλη St Florian’s (την αρχή δηλαδή της Βασιλικής οδού) και κάνε βόλτα στην οδό Florianska (σαν την δική μας Ερμού) μέχρι την κεντρική πλατεία. Και μετά μπορείς να χαθείς στα στενάκια!! 

Start your walk from the Barbican (the old city walls), pass the St Florian’s Gate (aka the beginning of the Royal Route) and walk Florianska street (it’s the shopping street in Krakow) until you bump into the central square. Then get lost in the alleys!!

 

 

 

3. Για brunch στο ”Charlotte”/Head to ”Charlotte” for brunch

Πάρε το ‘Charlie’s breakfast’ και θα με θυμηθείς!! Θα σου έρθει ένα καλαθάκι με χειροποίητα ψωμάκια και κρουασάν, χειροποίητη σοκολάτα ή μαρμελάδα, αυγό (βραστό ή τηγανιτό), ένα ζεστό ρόφημα ή χυμός+αφρώδες κρασί. Και όλα αυτά μόνο για 25 zloti (5,50 περίπου ευρώ)!!! Enjoy!!

Get ‘Charlie’s breakfast’ and…..you’ll understand why!! You’ll have a basket with homemade bread and croissants, homemade chocolate or jam, eggs (boiled or fried), a hot beverage or juice+sparkling wine!!! And all only for 25 zloti (5,50 euros). Enjoy!!!

4. Η περιοχή Kazimierz/Kazimierz district

Μία από τις ομορφότερες γειτονιές της Κρακοβίας, νομίζω τελικά η αγαπημένη μου!! Ποιός να φανταζόταν πως η παλιά εβραϊκή συνοικία που έγινε και τόπος συγκέντρωσης πριν οδηγηθούν χιλιάδες κόσμου στο Άουσβιτς από τους Ναζί, θα ήταν σήμερα η πιο ζωντανή,cool και funky περιοχή της πόλης!!! Γεμάτη μπαράκια, αυλές και πλατείες με food trucks!! 

Kazimierz district is by far the most beautiful in town…..and I think my personal favourite!! Could you imagine that the old jewish district (also the place where the Jewish people were gathered before being sent to Auschwitz by the Nazis) would be the most vibrant, cool and funky place to be in Krakow?? Full of bars, courtyards and squares with food trucks!!

-Έχεις δει την ταινία ”Η Λίστα του Σίντλερ”; Ένα κομμάτι έχει γυριστεί στην περιοχή Kazimierz!! Στο Νο.17 της οδού Meiselsa,  θα βρεις το μέρος όπου διαδραματίζεται η σκηνή που κρύφτηκε μία από τις πρωταγωνίστριες κάτω από μια σκάλα.

Have you seen the movie ”Schindler’s list”?? Kazimierz district was one of the filming locations. On No.17 in Meiselsa street, you can find the filming location of the scene with the  stair under which one of the main characters headed to hide.

5. Για φανταστικό potato pancake με goulash στο ”Czarna Kaczka The Black Duck”/Head to ”Czarna Kaczka The Black Duck” for delicious potato pancake with goulash

Αυτό το μικρό εστιατόριο ήταν κοντά στο ξενοδοχείο μας!! Εκτός από το παραπάνω πιάτο δοκίμασα και πολύ ωραία κολοκυθόσουπα.

This small restaurant was close to our hotel. You can also have pumpkin soup here (besides the dish on the title).

6. Λόφος Wawel/Wawel Hill

Εδώ θα θαυμάσεις το Κάστρο και τον Καθεδρικό ναό!! Και έχει και εκπληκτική θέα στον ποταμό Βιστούλα. Το Κάστρο αποτελούσε επί αίωνες την έδρα των βασιλέων της Πολωνίας….μην ξεχνάς ότι μέχρι το 1596 η Κρακοβία ήταν η πρωτεύουσα της χώρας.Έτσι εδώ θα βρεις πολλές εκθέσεις, η καθεμιά με το εισιτήριό της.

On the Wawel hill you can admire the Castle and the Krakow Cathedral!! And some of the best views to the Vistula river!! The Castle was the home of Polish kings for centuries….have in mind that Krakow was the capital of Poland until 1569. Inside the castle there are several exhibitions and each one needs its own ticket. 

 

 

7. Για ψώνια στην Galeria Krakowska/Shopping at Galeria Krakowska

Ένα mall δίπλα στον κεντρικό σιδηροδρομικό σταθμό της πόλης βγαλμένο από τα όνειρα κάθε λάτρη του shopping! Να πας και για καφέ και κέικ στην αλυσίδα ”Green Caffè Nero”.

A shopping mall next to the central railway station of the city and the dream of every shopping lover!! Find inside the ”Green Caffè Nero” Polish chain for coffee and delicious cakes.

 

 

8. Μονήμερη εκδρομή στα στρατόπεδα συγκέντρωσης Άουσβιτς-Μπίρκεναου/A daytrip to Auschwitz-Birkenau

Μία από τις πιο έντονες στιγμές που έχω ζήσει στα ταξίδια μου μέχρι τώρα (αρνητικά εννοείται). Ένα μέρος-τόπος μνήμης που καλό είναι να πάμε όλοι μας για να δούμε γιατί πρέπει να γνωρίζουμε το παρελθόν και την ιστορία για να μην επαναλάβουμε τα ίδια στο μέλλον!! 

Θα ακολουθήσει ξεχωριστό άρθρο με την εμπειρία μου εκεί. 

One of the most intense days of my travel life so far was this visit. A place that everyone has to go at least one time because we have to know the past and the history involved in order not to repeat it in the future!!

9. Περπάτησε την γέφυρα Bernatek και πήγαινε στην περιοχή Podgorze/Walk the Bernatek footbridge and visit Podgorze district

Μια από τις πιο ιδιαίτερες γέφυρες που έχω δει και περπατήσει στην Ευρώπη, η γέφυρα Bernatek ενώνει την περιοχή Kazimierz με την περιοχή Podgorze, δηλαδή την παλιά Εβραϊκή συνοικία με το παλιό Εβραϊκό γκέτο. Η γέφυρα έχει αρχίσει να γεμίζει με λουκέτα, καθώς οι ερωτευμένοι της πόλης έρχονται και τα τοποθετούν για να κλειδώσουν την αγάπη τους. Αυτό βέβαια που θα σε εντυπωσιάσει στην γέφυρα είναι το installation που φιλοξενεί: τις ακροβατικές φιγούρες σε διαφορετικές φιγούρες που κινούνται.

One of the most unique bridges I’ve ever seen and walked through in Europe. Bernatek footbridge links the districts of Kazimierz and Podgorze aka the old Jewish quarter and the old Jewish ghetto. You can see lovers putting up padlocks to lock their love and an amazing open air exhibition with acrobatic sculptures in different poses.

 

Στην συνοικία Podgorze ανάγκασαν οι Ναζί τον Εβραϊκό πληθυσμό της Κρακοβίας τον Μάρτιο του 1941 να μετακομίσει και τον περιέκλεισε με τείχη πριν τον στείλει στα στρατόπεδα συγκέντρωσης. Έτσι λοιπόν τριγυρνώντας στην περιοχή είδα πολλά κτήρια από την εποχή εκείνη και στη συνέχεια τα βήματά μου με οδήγησαν στην Plac Bohaterow Getta (πλατεία των ηρώων του γκέτο) όπου υπάρχει η εγκατάσταση ”Chairs”, ένα μνημείο για τους Εβραίους θύματα του γκέτο.

In March 1941 Krakow’s Jewish population was marched into the centre of Podgorze district and walled off in what became known as the Krakow Ghetto before transporting them to the concentration camps. I walked around the district discovering buildings that stood still from the war era and my steps led me to Plac Bohaterow Getta (Ghetto Heroes square) where you can admire the installation ”Chairs”, an iconic memorial to the Jewish victims of the Ghetto.

 

10. Χαλάρωσε στην πισίνα στα μεσαιωνικά κελάρια του Hotel Stary/Relax in the pool in the medieval cellars of Hotel Stary

Ναι καλά διάβασες, στα μεσαιωνικά κελάρια. Το Hotel Stary έχει μετατρέψει τα παλιά μεσαιωνικά κελάρια σε ένα μέρος για wellness & spa. Μπορείς να αγοράσεις ένα ολοήμερο πάσο των 80zl (περίπου 19 ευρώ) και να κολυμπήσεις στην πισίνα, να κάνεις σάουνα και χαμάμ και να μπεις και στο salt grotto. Σου προσφέρουν επίσης μπουρνούζι και παντόφλες καθώς και νερό και φρούτα. Εγώ πραγματικά χαλάρωσα και βγήκα ξανά στην πόλη άλλος άνθρωπος.

Oh yes you read right, the medieval cellars. Hotel Stary has transformed the old medieval cellars into a wellness & spa area. You can buy an all day pass (80zl-almost 19 euros) and swim in the pools or have finnish sauna, steam bath and enter the salt-iodine chamber. I really loved it I have to say, one of the best things I’ve done in Krakow!!
