Πριν λίγες εβδομάδες είδες μέσα από τα social media μου πως πήγα για μερικές μέρες στα Χανιά! Η αλήθεια είναι ότι δεν τα θυμόμουν σχεδόν καθόλου παρόλο που τα επισκέφτηκα πριν έξι χρόνια με δυο φίλες μου!

A few weeks ago I’ve spent some days in Chania in Crete!! I’ve been to Chania six years ago with two of my best friends, but I didn’t really remember it at all!!

Και ήθελα να τα ξαναγνωρίσω όσο καλύτερα και πιο βαθιά μπορούσα!! Έτσι συνεργάστηκα με το Crete Urban Adventures για να ανακαλύψω την πόλη μέσα από τα μάτια των ντόπιων! Και η οδηγός μας η Ειρήνη ήταν αυτό ακριβώς που χρειαζόμουν! Ντόπια, φιλικότατη, με βαθιά γνώση των Χανίων και πρόθυμη να απαντήσει όλες μας τις ερωτήσεις!! 

And I wanted so much to explore the city the best way I could!! So I partnered with Crete Urban Adventures to discover Chania through the eyes of the locals! And our guide Irene was exactly what I needed!! A local girl, so friendly and so eager to answer all of our questions!! And with deep knowledge of the city!!

Το tour μας ξεκίνησε από ένα από τα πιο κεντρικά σημεία των Χανίων, την Δημοτική Αγορά. Εδώ μπορείς να αγοράσεις ΤΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ: από βότανα και φυσικά καλλυντικά μέχρι λαχανικά, κρέας και τυρί!! Εμείς δοκιμάσαμε και τυρί γραβιέρα!!

We started the tour from one of the most central spots of Chania, the Municipal Market. You can buy EVERYTHING here: from herbs and natural cosmetics to groceries, meat and cheese!! And we tasted some really good cheese called ”graviera”!!

Σειρά είχε η παλιά πόλη των Χανίων!! Το αγαπημένο μου μέρος θα έλεγα!! Πλακόστρωτα στενάκια, γεμάτα από ιστορία!! Πολλές από αυτές μας τις εξιστόρησε η Ειρήνη καθώς περιπλανιόμασταν στα μέρη που άλλοτε περπατούσαν Ενετοί και Οθωμανοί αφήνοντας στην πόλη τα σημάδια τους μέχρι σήμερα. Είδαμε μία ορθόδοξη εκκλησία, μία καθολική εκκλησία και περάσαμε και από μια συναγωγή! Περάσαμε από το Παλιό Βενετσιάνικο Λιμάνι και καταλήξαμε στο Φρούριο Φίρκα με την εκπληκτική θέα στο λιμάνι! Κάτσαμε και για ένα καφεδάκι λίγο πιο δίπλα στο καφέ του ξενοδοχείου Alcanea Boutique!

Then we continued the tour through the streets of the old town!! My favourite part of Chania!!! Cobblestoned little streets full of history, exactly my thing!! Irene shared with us many stories about this part of the city where Venetians and Ottomans walked in the past years and left their mark until today! We wandered around and checked an orthodox church, a catholic church and passed by a synagogue. We walked the old Venetian port to Firkas Fortress to experience the amazing view! And then we stopped to have some coffee nearby at the cafe of the Alcanea Boutique Hotel!

Και η βόλτα στο λιμάνι συνεχίστηκε!! Περάσαμε από το Γιαλί Τζαμισί (που πλέον φιλοξενεί περιοδικές εκθέσεις), από το κτήριο Rosa Nera (το κτήριο είναι κομμάτι του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης και τον τελευταίο καιρό έχει καταληφθεί), από τα ερείπια της Αρχαίας Κυδωνίας…μέχρι που φτάσαμε σε ένα από τα ενδιαφέροντα κομμάτια της ξενάγησης. Επισκεφτήκαμε ένα παραδοσιακό Κρητικό μαχαιράδικο και μάλιστα γνωρίσαμε και τον ιδιοκτήτη του και καλλιτέχνη που μας είπε λίγα λόγια για την τέχνη του!! Δεν ήξερα ότι υπήρχαν τόσο είδη μαχαιριών!!!

We continued our tour to the old port after the small but good break. We passed by the Yali Camisi (it houses several permanent exhibitions nowadays), the Rosa Nera building (a building owned by the University of Crete that has been taken) and the remnants of Ancient Kydonia….until we reached one of the most interesting parts of the tour!! We visited a traditional Cretan knife making shop and we had the opportunity to meet the owner and craftsman that introduced us to the art of knives making!! I haven’t realized there is such a variety of knives!!!

Έχεις δει ρέπλικα Μινωικού πλοίου;; Το είδα στο Ναυτικό μουσείο Κρήτης στα Νεώρια και στο προτείνω όταν πας Χανιά!! Μάλιστα είχε πλεύσει από την Κρήτη στην Αθήνα για τους εορτασμούς της Ολυμπιάδας του 2004!!

Have you seen a Minoan ship?? There is a replica on display at the Maritime Museum of Crete. It sailed from Crete to Athens for the 2004 Olympics ceremonies, now permanently docks in a converted Venetian shipyard (neoria).

Αφού απολαύσαμε την θέα προς το Κουμ Καπί, η ξενάγηση έφτασε στο τέλος της στην περιοχή Σπλάντζια!! Τριγυρίσαμε στα στενάκια για λίγο και ύστερα κάτσαμε στην πλατεία του 1821 για παραδοσιακούς κρητικούς μεζέδες και φυσικά κρητική ρακή!!! 

While we enjoyed the view to the Κum Capisi, the tour ended at the Splantzia district!! We wandered around and then had a stop at the 1821 Square for some cretan appetizers-called mezedes- and of course cretan raki!!

Το tour κράτησε σχεδόν 3μισι ώρες και πραγματικά δεν κατάλαβα καθόλου πως πέρασαν!! Αν βρεθείτε στα Χανιά και θέλετε να μάθετε τα μυστικά της πόλης, σας συστήνω ανεπιφύλαχτα το tour ”Street Stories of Chania” . 

The tour lasted almost 3 and a half hours!! But I didn’t realize how the time passed as I had a wonderful time!! If you find yourself in Chania and want to know all about the secrets of the city, I highly recommend the ”Street Stories of Chania” tour!!!
